  1. The renovated facade is pretty good..for Dillard's. Are there showcase windows next to the entrances?

  2. Let me rephrase that: it looks better than the Dillard's stores I have seen around the region.

  3. Those are indeed showcases. Dillard's and Macy's have them on the exterior at SouthPark, and Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus have them on their mall entrances.

  4. I liked the old-school Ivey's exterior and wish it was still there. That said, Dillard's had no choice but to change it. While cool, the old exterior was hardly befitting of a flagship-level store.

Of course, their true flagship stores in Little Rock are hardly anything to write home about...

  5. I think that the utter neglect that Dillard's took in regards to maintenance hastened the decline of the store before remodeling, but it was seriously out of date. The new store looks a little more "today."

  6. I agree looking at Park Plaza's Dillard's, it doesn't really scream flagship. I think if all of the SouthPark stores keeping their original facades would've been nearly impossible b/c this, after all, is Charlotte, where nothing old is kept.

  7. Ha! Good call there, cantnot.

I still miss the Ivey's exterior every time I drive by, but Steven makes a good point, more so on the interior of the store, IMHO. The new interior is drastically (that might not even be strong enough of a word) improved -- it reminds me a bit of the store at Atlantic Station, which doesn't necessarily surprise me since they probably have only one or two designs for all the stores these days.

  8. I thought that Dillard's was 4 levels. That is what I have heard because I have only been in Belk, Macy's & Neiman Marcus at SouthPark.

  9. cantnot: The only two older malls I've ever seen retain their original totally coordinated look were NorthPark (Dallas) and River Ridge (Lynchburg). NorthPark has the Nashers to keep them in-line, and River Ridge just fell this year with a non-compatible theater addition.

Matt from CLT: The whole SouthPark complex got sloppy on maintenance before the remodeling. Dillard's was looking seiously dated inside, and really, seeing as they left most of the third floor the same, they didn't go far enough on the renovation. They mostly got rid of the good details and kept and enhanced all the bad ones.

ct36: Dillard's has a basement level that isn't used for sales, but has an entrance with elevator access to the upper levels.
