  1. The green and purple to not look good together, especially in person.

  2. I'd imagine that the purple faded from black. I hope, anyway.

  3. Steven,

To reply to the other thread, stopped by briefly on Friday (had to get back to Knox for a meeting), just after opening, and it is definitely a bustling Clearance Center.

The confusion on it being open/closed may stem from the store's hours, 11-7 M-S, 1-5 on Sunday. An employee said they get rumors that its closed all the time because people come by when the store is, in fact, closed.

This clearance center isn't as depressing as the one in Jacksonville because it doesn't look like a Dillard's inside. They never did much to it after the Hess's buyout. The CC at Regency in JAX is depressing because it still sparkles like a full-line Dillard's, just with sad endless racks instead of displays and drywall over escalator entrys.

The same employee said that had steady business and had no plans to close, and that they had permanant employees now, where when they were first a going out of business Dillard's before the transition, they were all employees of the Asheville Mall store and were assigned to the Biltmore store for certain days of the week.

  4. I had no idea Dillard's had converted its store at Regency Square into a clearance center. Thanks for the update on Asheville and Jacksonville.

I'm curious about the famous Hess's chandeliers. They tended to have multiple chandeliers in their cosmetics department, and I'd imagine Biltmore Square would be no exception since Dillard's left everything pretty much intact. Does this store have the chandeliers?

  5. Yes, they still have the chandeliers

  6. I have to see this store. I haven't seen a Hess's interior since they tore down the Christiansburg, Va. store.

Anybody want to get me some interior photos?

  7. I have to admit, I'm unfamiliar with the chandeliers, I guess Hess's only put them in stores they actually built. None of the Knoxville-area stores had them. I guess I never noticed them here.

Now that I think about it, the Hess's in Hamilton place Chattanooga had them, but they were removed in one of Proffitt's many renovations.

I tell you what I'd really love to see is a picture somewhere, anywhere of the giant Hess's toy soldiers that they put outside at Christmas with the "Season's Greetings" signs. I figure they did it everywhere since they sure did it big at all the stores around here, even the Oak Ridge store.

  8. I remember the Hess's toy soldiers from Christiansburg, although Crown American started using them on mall entrances rather than on the Hess's as time went on.

Hess's did this funky multicolor thing with their logo too. on the Christiansburg mall entrance it was placed three times, once each in red, blue and green. This motif was repeated on the shopping bags and charge cards.

  10. That's okay. I may get a chance to go myself in the future.
