  1. Lazarus??? Is this in some way connected to the larger Lazarus chain in the midwest. Awesome pic, btw: looks like a fun mall.

  2. Lazarus of Roanoke was a women's specialty chain, one of the chicest in town, with locations at all the major malls and downtown. As far as I know it had no relation to Lazarus department stores, though once on a trip to Ohio, my aunt attempted to use a Lazarus of Roanoke credit card at the Eastland Mall Lazarus in Columbus, thinking it was the same store.

This photo was taken in the "middle years" of Tanglewood, approximately 1990, though it could have been later. This was the mall's '80s look, to be sure, and also it's last period of long tem sucess without the rampant big-boxing of the interior that typifies the place today. I spent a lot of time here during this era.

  3. It's still one of my favorites, even though it looks a little bland now.

  4. This photo is very impressive indeed. I'd love to visit some 1990 Malls like This one.

  5. I wish I could say I had a pile of pictures like this, but I don't. I may show a few more, though :-)

  6. The LAZARUS font shown here is identical to the now-defunct Lazarus department stores in Columbus.
