Hutzler's; White Marsh Mall, Baltimore, Maryland. Exterior entrance, circa 1983.

  1. It could be narrowed to White Marsh or Security Square Mall. Hunt Valley opened in 1982 with some of the same use of greenhouse treatments but never had Hutzler's. Harford Mall opened in the 1970's but was very nonedescript architecturally until its recent makeover with faux town center brickwork. Inner Harbor/Harborplace opened with a small Hutzler's that didn't last very long opening around 1980 and one of the first in the closing of Hutzler's in the 80's.

Baltimore and its trio of H-department stores, Hecht's, Hutzler's, and Hochschild Kohn's, all now gone with the Macyating of Hecht's.

  2. I like that entrance, all the glass gives it a modern look, especially considering the fact the pic is from 1983

  3. Ken: Thanks for the suggestions. I think it's White Marsh. Hutzler's had a store at Security Square, but they inherited the old Hochschild Kohn's, and likely wouldn't have remodeled to this extent.

Michael: While in a way it screams 'early '80s,' this store wasn't as heavy handed as some and probably aged pretty well. It's certainly attractive.
